Artist's Bio

Makenna Burton is a St. Louis–based artist and lifelong equestrian whose oil paintings are deeply inspired by her life with horses. Drawing from years spent around the barn, Makenna explores the quiet, emotional connections between horses, humans, and other animals. Her equine-centered works often evoke a sense of freedom, nostalgia, and companionship, capturing moments that feel both intimate and expansive.

Through the use of soft light, open landscapes, and a subtle sense of atmosphere, Makenna creates scenes that feel grounded in reality and slightly magical. Gentle interactions between figures frequently appear in her work, reinforcing themes of shared presence in the natural world. Burton’s paintings invite viewers to slow down and reflect on the quiet, often overlooked relationships that shape our lives with animals and the landscapes we inhabit.
